9th Grade Word Problem

The width of a photograph is 4 cm more than three tenths of the length. If the width is 13 cm, find the length.

Solution

w = 0.3L + 4
13 = 0.3L + 4
-4 = - 4
_______________
9 = 0.3L
L = 9/(0.3)
L = 30 cm

The length of the photograph is 30 cm.
